I believe our society has developed genetically modified food since the early 1800's . It has been explained through the process of making the genetically modified food supposed to become better and last longer since population of the people in this world is increasing more over the centuries (Pariaz, 2007). Genetically modified food has been here since Christopher Columbus. Genetically modified foods are making it better for the people of the world today. It has been developing more for the people in the world and for the resources for all nations (Pariaz, 2007). " Accordingly, it is appropriate to consider the terms "novel", "biotechnology", and "genetically modified" (GM) in the context of a continuum of agricultural and food production evolution that began thousands of years ago [for our society to eat and use everyday]"( Pariaz, 2007, pg.4, para.4). It might be different by the DNA, but it is more variety for the society to grow and be used for now and years to come.
Many think that it could help us in the years to come, but others believe that it could get us sick by eating genetically modified or biotechnology food. While our regulators believe that it could help us in the future because society will be growing more over the next five to ten years. We have been using it for many centuries already (Pariaz, 2007). " Genetically modified crop plants are now a mainstream part of the agricultural landscape in many parts of the world"( Pariaz, 2007). The food resources are being used in somewhat a good purpose because it feeds everyone around the world, including the poorest countries or nations in the world (Pariaz,2007). Genetically modified foods will vary and make it better by the process of the development of the food in the long run, but it will vary from the people around the world.
Right to Know Instead of hiding the disadvantages from the research findings of the genetically modified foods, the countries or nations should have been investigating the last decade's research findings. This should be done before using the genetically modified organisms, because they would find that eating them could be harmful. Regulators should have actually read the findings from the 1980's before ingoring or dismissing them. The researchers knew that the injection of our crops and food resources with pesticides or changing the DNA would affect us in the future (Ho, Cummins, & Saunders, 2007).
" In fact [the] evidence has been building up since 1980's that should have halted the development of commericalization of many, if not all genetically modified crops, if the precautionary principle had been applied" (Ho,Cummins, & Saunders, 2007, para.10). For example, "In Africa, genetically modifed foods were sent over as food aid after widespread rejection and protest, putting millions of the most vulnerable people at risk from the health hazards of genetically modified organisms, and threatening to contaminate their food supply for years to come" (Ho, Cummins, & Saunders, 2007, para. 9).
